2025 [YEAR 5] SFS ANNUAL MEETING
The 2025 Society for Freshwater Science Annual Meeting was held on June 18 - 22 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The meeting included oral presentations, Emerge-exclusive workshops, plenary speakers, poster presentations, and social events.
The Emerge program funded in-person participation at the 2025 SFS Annual Meeting for the Year-5 cohort of 8 undergraduate students, 25 graduate students, and 6 early career professionals (total: 39). Emerge also partially funded travel and registration for 6 alumni to assist with mentoring activities. Twenty seven Year 5 fellows presented research (14 oral and 14 poster presentations), for a total of 28 Year 5 Emerge fellow presenters at the annual meeting (1 fellow presented twice). Notably, 1 poster presented by Year 4 and Year 5 fellows was the product of the Year 4 Online Collaborative Project teams. Additionally, 29 Emerge alumni (ranging from Year 1 to Year 4) presented research (16 oral and 13 poster presentations). One of the alumni presentations featured efforts of the Scholar Team for Research, Engagement, and Advancing Minority Voices (STREAM), an Emerge alumni-led community.
The slides created in the Year 4 Visual Communication Workshop were presented by co-PI Dan McGarvey and co-authored by 17 additional people: 4 Year 4 fellows who are also in Year 5, 8 Year 4 fellows who are program alumni, 2 other program alumni, co-PI Tina Mendez, External Advisory Board member Stephanie Parker, and Emerge Program Coordinator Breanna Ondich.
Lastly, the Emerge Program Director, Amy Rosemond, was recognized as an SFS Fellow.
